I was surprised and elated when I heard that I had won a Swannie Award. These awards are given to the best speaker from each grade in debating. At Brunswick we are given really fanatastic debating opportunities including workshops and competitions. Debating has helped me become more confident in speaking to large groups and with essays, presentations and my general approach to studying and thinking about issues. Holly, Year 10
I got chosen to coach for the Year 7 Soccer team. The boys had big expectations of me but I soon eased into the role. On Sports Day I was nervous but also excited. I was thrilled my team got into the final which we won with an exciting goal with only two minutes to go. We all sang the Melbourne Victory chant at the end. Josh- Year 8
The Italy trip last year was really good. It showed me how to cope without my parents help and be more self sufficient. | Kendo - the Way of the Sword |
|
Kendo is the art of Japanese swordsmanship—a modern, full-contact martial art with a 1000 year history. It is practiced by more than 5 million people around the world, primarily in Japan. Kendo relies more on technique than power, so it is excellent for girls and boys of all ages, sizes and abilities. In kendo commands are all in Japanese, and Japanese formal etiquette is closely observed. Students also learn the footwork, strikes and drills of kendo, meditation and especially the philosophy of kendo—the “why” of kendo technique. Currently the school offers kendo as a classroom elective at years 7, 8 and 9, and as an after-school enrichment activity. |
