2014 Performing Arts Captain, Larissa Li, as Carmen in Fame
A Draw Card Program

We entered 2013 with the goal of expanding Performing Arts within the school and the belief that it was important to our school strategic direction to do so. We are proud to have exceeded expectations. Our first whole school production, Fame, the Musical, was an outstanding success. A new specialist subject, Centre Stage was introduced in second semester for Year 7-9 and led to our inaugural junior school production, Ratbags. Not to be outdone, Year 10-12 students formed the Brunswick Senior Theatre Company. Its adaptation of Much Ado about Nothing was captivating.

Stagecraft was introduced as a Year 9 specialist subject and at Year7, for the first time we have offered a choice of music performance subjects, bands or singing, within the newly introduced Year 7 Performing Arts Block.

Our vision for the future is to provide an integrated and enticing program across Music, Drama and Dance, where each discipline is a recognised pathway of learning in the school and not just an elective, and where partnerships are formed with the visual arts and media. We see Performing Arts as a draw card program, catering from beginners to advanced, extending students’ abilities and confidence in ways that they would not have imagined possible and having a positive impact on student wellbeing and leadership. Already we see Performing Arts as an exemplar of our Positive Excited Engaged and Proud learning mantra.
